Minecraft 1.8 part 1!

Holy crap, today's the day! Minecraft's 1.8 Update!
.

So this brings a ton of additional functionality to an already fun experience. It really gave a breath of life back into the game for me. Let me show you some of the stuff they've added.

Improved Combat and Movement
Combat has been dramatically improved with the addition of Critical Hits and Sprinting. A Critical Hit deals double damage to enemies and can be accomplished by leaping into the air and striking from above. Not only is this a more efficient way of killing mobs, it is also the most badass.

 (Shown: Historical Evidence)

Sprinting makes a big difference in the world of Minecraft. Tapping the forward key twice allows you to dash quickly away from the scary monsters towards your foes. If you attack during a sprint, not only does it count as a Critical Hit, it also knocks the enemy back.

The Bow and Arrow received a massive update, which is to say, it is now useful. Before, you would see an enemy coming and you would frantically right-click towards your enemy. However, the bow would often lag and a burst of three-million arrows would fly towards the spot your enemy used to be. Needless to say, this was not the best result

(It never worked out this well.)

Now, when you attack with the arrow, you must first hold down the key to pull back the arrow. The longer you hold back, the more force you get.... just like a real bow. The good news, you're now able to snipe more efficiently as a fully drawn bow counts as a Critical Hit and it zooms in slightly for an easier shot.

You can see a video of the new combat techniques on ArtofAnderson on Youtube.

New World Locations

The Minecraft world, which was once a happy place with easy to navigate caverns, has now been populated by a series of eerie ghost towns and corpse-ridden death-tunnels.

(Not Shown: The puddle of urine at my feet)

Now, amidst the caverns filled with skeleton archers, we must now contend with these abandoned train depots filled with spiderwebs, which immobilize you, and new cave-spiders, which cause you to become poisoned. Yay? I think.

We also have NPC Villages, which will soon be home to mobs who will give us quests and assist us, or otherwise just give us stuff to do. However, they are currently uninhabited by humans and are instead filled with zombies or worse.

(Sometimes the only safe place is twenty blocks high)

That's all the time I have for now... I'll post some more pictures later tonight when I discuss strongholds, eating and new mobs! But to hold you over, here's some surprisingly pretty, natural cave formations.
